Drip Lips
Preventing Unnecessary Water Damage
This week’s blog looks at the importance of incorporating what is known as a ‘drip lip’ into your building cladding design.
On so many occasions I observe water damage to horizontal ceiling and eave linings due to the absence of a drip lip. A drip lip prevents cascading rain-water from tracking back onto horizontal surfaces through water tension and causing water damage, spalling, and paint delamination.
Drip lips are also critical to sound balcony construction.
Counter-levered foam render walls that have no drip lip are especially prone to water damage.
